The content of the manual is based on the direct experience of the LIFE BEWARE pilot project, which allowed the implementation of different types of sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS) in two municipalities of the Alto Vicentino, namely the municipalities of Santorso and Marano Vicentino. The purpose of this manual is to provide both public and private planners, managing bodies and professionals, as well as ordinary citizens, with practical guidelines for the correct choice, or realisation and maintenance of SuDS. In this context, the aim was to give communities a sense of responsibility towards the management of urban runoff by encouraging them to carry out small interventions themselves that could have a positive effect on the community (decrease in the risk of flooding, reduction of the heat island effect, etc.), and on individual homeowners (accumulation of water for irrigation, increase in property value, etc.). The manual, therefore, has the ultimate goal of favouring the diffusion of SuDS in particular by facilitating the work of planners who will be able to find in it a support tool both in terms of the choice of possible solutions and their hydraulic dimensioning.
