A EUROPEAN PROJECT FOR NATURAL WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT AND FOR A RESILIENT TERRITORY

BEWARE project (BEtter Water Management for Advancing Resilient Communities in Europe), co-funded by the European Union LIFE Programme aims to improve hydraulic safety and territorial resilience in Altovicentino area, Vicenza Province (Italy).
It promotes the adoption of sustainable interventions through a participatory approach that actively involves interested stakeholders, encouraging them to adopt actions to reduce flood damages caused by the heavy rains that increasingly occur in the territory.

LIFE Beware project participated in Energy Cities' 2022 Forum (Brussels)

On 21 and 22 April 2022 Energy Cities, The European learning community for future-proof cities, promoted the Energy Cities' 2022 Forum in Brussels, two days that hosted debates with the main EU leaders with a strong focus on mayors' dialogues with institutional representatives. In this context, LIFE Beware enriched the Forum by bringing the example of the Altovicentino Mayors Adapt Strategy and the participatory process that led to this result.

Life Beware’s Monitoring visit was a success!

Promoted with flying colours, the Life Beware project was reviewed by the European monitors on April 27, 2022, who were satisfied with the project's remarkable achievements. The Brussels experts reviewed the series of Natural Water Retention Measures (NWRMs) implemented in Santorso and Marano Vicentino.

The innovative, geo-referenced audio guide for a digital tour of hydraulic risk reduction measures and the water civilisation heritage has been launched

Kicked off in April 2022 is "Acque comuni"(“Common Waters”) , the innovative digital tour of the municipalities of Santorso and Marano Vicentino that will make people discover the great natural and cultural heritage related to water connected with the hydraulic risk mitigation interventions carried out within the European Life Beware project. Thanks to the special geo-referenced audioguide, which makes use of the open source izi.Travel platform, it is possible to go through the itinerary in a totally easy way, simply using your smartphone or tablet.

PROJECTS

The LIFE Programme of the European Union is co-funding a wide variety of projects that involve public and private entities, civil society organisations and other stakeholders, in the implementation of measures and strategies for climate change adaptation. The LIFE BEWARE project is committed to building a network of projects
and initiatives for soil conservation, sustainable management of natural resources, promotion of environmental governance, biodiversity conservation and much more. In the section below, three important projects about the sustainable use of soil and flood risk mitigation are presented!

LIFE City Adap3

Life CityAdap3 is the set of pilot projects, consisting of the application of a technique or method that has not been applied or tested before or anywhere, that offers possible environmental or climate benefits over current best practices and that can be applied on a larger scale in similar situations.

CityAdap3 will create public-private mechanisms to finance urban adaptation measures through the participation of local industries and companies from 4 municipalities (Spain and Italy), validating transferable and replicable collaboration schemes at the European level.
